Terry Davis Assumes Role as President Elect of American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Falls Church, VATheresa Davis, PhD, RN, NE-BC, CHTP, FAAN, Assistant Vice President of Nursing at the High Reliability Center of Inova Health System, has been named president-elect of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) – the world’s largest specialty nursing organization.  Dr. Davis will serve a one-year term as president elect from July 1, 2022 – July 2023, and a one-year term as president from July 1, 2023 – 2024.  In her role at Inova, Dr. Davis oversees the Inova enVision TeleICU, Transfer Center, Resource Management Center, Language and Disability Services and Team Member Health.

Dr. Davis joined Inova as a clinical staff nurse at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 1986. Among her positions with the organization, she served as clinical operations director of Inova’s enVision TeleICU from its launch in 2004 to 2021. As the clinical director, she led the implementation of the TeleICU in critical care and was at the forefront of a new frontier in virtual communication. Dr. Davis also implemented a Tele-disaster program across the Northern Virginia region to improve situational awareness and leverage clinical expertise during emergency incidents; this program is now present in 16 hospitals in the mid-Atlantic region.

Dr. Davis’s clinical specialties are trauma/neuro critical care and TeleICU, and she has led research in the areas of healing touch, caring science and technology acceptance.


Dr. Davis has also served as an adjunct faculty member at both George Mason University and Shenandoah University, with a focus on nursing informatics, advanced pathophysiology and research from 2016-2020. Among her numerous honors, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurses in 2018.
