Inova Alexandria Hospital Achieves ANCC “Pathway to Excellence” Designation

Inova Alexandria Hospital has earned the prestigious Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The achievement identifies the hospital as one of the best places for nurses to work and puts it among an elite group of healthcare organizations. Nationwide, only 171 hospitals have earned Pathway status.

“Pathway designation is a tremendous achievement for Inova Alexandria Hospital and affirms that our nurses work and thrive in an environment of excellence,” says Fadia Feghali, MS, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, Inova Alexandria Hospital. “The credential demonstrates our commitment to our nurses’ well-being and confirms to the public that they are valued and respected members of the healthcare team who directly impact patient care, safety and quality.”

ANCC’s Pathway to Excellence Program recognizes a healthcare organization’s commitment to create a positive nursing practice environment. To achieve designation, Inova Alexandria Hospital met six Practice Standards foundational to quality patient care and a healthy workplace. These include shared decision-making, collaborative leadership, a safe environment, evidence-based quality initiatives, a commitment to work-life balance, ongoing education and professional development.

“Inova Alexandria Hospital and its nurses can be very proud of this accomplishment,” said Christine Pabico, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Director, Pathway to Excellence Program, American Nurses Credentialing Center. “Pathway designation means the hospital provides an engaging, supportive workplace focused on safety, interprofessional teamwork and the highest level of patient care. And it means the nurses who work there set a global standard and rank among the very best in the world.”
