Inova Health Foundation Names Steven P. Norris Assistant Vice President of Development

Norris will serve as principal gift officer for Inova Schar Cancer Institute

Falls Church, VA — Inova Health Foundation today announced Steven P. Norris has been named Assistant Vice President of Development. Norris will serve as the principal gift officer for the Inova Schar Cancer Institute and serve on the Inova Health Foundation’s senior management team. He will draw upon his deep experience in healthcare fundraising as he plays a lead role in facilitating growth in both sustainable and transformational gifts in support of the Institute’s research activities and clinical programs.

Norris has an extensive background in cancer and education focused fundraising. He joins Inova from the University of Missouri Kansas City Foundation where as president, he led campaigns which raised more than $300 million. He designed and drove changes throughout the foundation’s giving program, including crowdfunding as part of a comprehensive development program.

Previously, having spent nearly a decade in various roles at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Norris recognizes the important contribution that philanthropy plays in transforming cancer care. As Executive Director for Development, he articulated the critical work of MD Anderson and worked with prospects and donors to align philanthropic interests with priority programs and services. Under his leadership, his team achieved a 300 percent increase in donations. In addition, Norris was the architect of a blended gift program at MD Anderson which encouraged donors to make commitments that included both outright and planned gifts. During his tenure there, he personally raised more than $70 million.

“Cancer treatment is a specialty of Inova and with the help of transformational gifts, the Inova Schar Cancer Institute is positioned to be one of the country’s preeminent cancer institutes devoted to applying genomic science to individualized cancer therapy,” said Donald “Skip” Trump, MD, CEO, Inova Schar Cancer Institute. “We are thrilled to have Steven join the Foundation. I am confident his extensive fundraising experience and prior success in attracting significant philanthropic support for a nationally recognized cancer center will ensure the Inova Schar Cancer Institute secures the resources necessary to achieve our vision for the future.”
