Inova Loudoun Hospital Receives Level III Trauma Center Designation

Leesburg, VA — Inova Loudoun Hospital has received the Level III trauma center designation from the Virginia Department of Health. This designation means Inova Loudoun will be able to treat patients with more serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.  This is the first trauma center in Loudoun County.

“In keeping faith with our community, we are now offering trauma services,” said CEO Deborah Addo, Inova Loudoun Hospital. “We have an exceptional team of emergency trained physicians, nurses and excellent surgeons to deliver this level of care to those that live and work in our area.”

According to the Virginia Department of Health, Level III trauma centers, through an organized trauma response, can provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, stabilization, emergency operations and also arrange for the transfer of the patient to a facility that can provide definitive trauma care that cannot be managed by the resources dedicated to Level III designation.

In Virginia the trauma center designation process is entirely voluntary on the part of the hospital. It is meant to identify those hospitals that will make a commitment to provide a higher level of care for multiple injured patients and who welcome public acknowledgment of that capability. Inova Loudoun submitted paperwork six months ago. State health officials reviewed the care provided for patients during that time and also completed an on-site visit.

“As the only trauma center in Loudoun County, this reinforces our promise to provide advanced medical and surgical care to those in our community,” commented Trauma Medical Director Jordan Estroff, MD FACS, Inova Loudoun Hospital.

The new emergency facility will be called the Inova Virts Miller Family Emergency and Trauma Center at Inova Loudoun Hospital.
