Inova Loudoun Hospital Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group December 2016 Meeting

Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group Next Meeting December 14 at 11 a.m.

Leesburg, VA — November 22, 2016 — Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts a free, monthly Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group. The purpose of the support group is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment as a part of the stroke recovery process for those who are affected by stroke and their caregivers. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – noon at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg, in the second floor Patient Education Room. The next Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group will be on Wednesday, December 14th.

The December speaker will be Dr. Peter Wei, a Board Eligible Physiatrist specializing in musculoskeletal and non-operative back and spine medicine. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his PM&R residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He manages patients with spinal cord injury, stroke and patients in need of prosthetics or orthotics in order to maximize their function and minimize their pain. Dr. Wei performs EMGs, dry needling, trigger point injections as well as hand and peripheral joint injections.

Stroke is a “brain attack” cutting off vital oxygen and blood to parts of the brain that control everything we do. Every year, stroke affects nearly 800,000 people in the US. The survivors of stroke forever experience changes that can affect speaking, walking, memory, and thinking. Recovery is a lifelong process. Socializing in a supportive and encouraging environment is an important part of stroke recovery. Support groups allow stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to interact with others who understand the life changes that occur after stroke.

Participation is free and registration isn’t required. For further information, please contact Jill Lieb, Stroke Support Group Liaison @ Jill.Lieb@inova.org or 703-858-6199.
