Inova Loudoun Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Employee Among Recipients

July 21, 2013 – (July 23, 2013) – The Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation recently announced the award of $35,800 in Regirer Nursing Scholarships to 23 recipients employed in Virginia long term care facilities.  Each recipient will receive $1,500 toward the cost of their nursing education.  To receive the award each recipient completed an extensive application, were personally interviewed by a member of the foundation’s nurse scholarship committee and agreed to work in long term care after graduation.  One of the recipients will receive $2,800 to be used towards the Nurse Leadership Institute (NLI).  The mission of the NLI is to inspire, teach and empower nurse managers seeking to grow as leaders and become catalysts for change.

The scholarships are named for Walter and Maria Teresa who as members of the Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA) lead efforts to improve access to long term care education for career professionals.  The Regirer Nursing Scholarship Program is designed to promote and support quality of care and to enhance the educational level of nurses currently working in VHCA member facilities.  The Regirers were leaders in the VHCA which is an affiliated organization of the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation.

Since the inception of the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation in 1997 it has awarded Regirer Nursing Scholarships totaling $470,975 to 349 scholarships recipients.  The Foundation is a corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific or educational purposes.

Ms. Rose Kayembe, a Certified Nurse Aide at Inova Loudoun Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg is a recipient of this year’s Regirer Nurse Scholarship.  Ms. Kayembe plans to further her education with a goal to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
