Inova Fairfax Hospital Dedicated New Addition to Patient Tower

Addition offers all private rooms for patients

FALLS CHURCH, Va., – (December 17, 2012) — Elected officials, local business leaders and community partners gathered at Inova Fairfax Hospital to celebrate the completion of a new, adult services hospital. The dedication program included  comments from Sharon Bulova, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, as well as other elected officials and Inova executive leaders.

The 11-story South Tower, which connects to the original adult services hospital, adds 216,000 square feet of space and features all private patient rooms. The building’s design features incorporate abundant natural light, open space and views of nature to enhance the patient experience and promote healing.

“The addition of the South Tower to our medical campus is yet another example of how we are serving the complex needs of the community through high-quality care in a patient-friendly environment,” says Patrick Christiansen, CEO of Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. “This development will continue to make Inova Fairfax Hospital a renowned destination for patient care, education and research.”

The South Tower includes 120 medical/surgical patient rooms and 54 intensive care unit (ICU) rooms.  The ICU floors are grouped into specialties to improve flow and staff collaboration. The building’s layout and color palette demonstrate a focus on patient safety, while countless “green” elements showcase Inova’s continued commitment to sustainability.

The ceremony marks the completion of the first phase of a massive, multi-year expansion project at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. Renovations will soon begin on the original adult services hospital, and by 2016, a separate, 12-story Inova Women’s Hospital and Inova Children’s Hospital will open. Adjacent to the new women’s and children’s hospital, the campus will also add a new, 8-story parking garage to enhance campus access.

  • I have hunted 50 different sites to try and get info on where this south tower is in relationship to the green garage. Very frustrating. Even calling the hospital number did not help----all I got was to take escalator ---to where? the room is on the7th floor and I am handicapped(walker/rollator) and do not fit on an escalator. So what do I do?

    • We apologize that you have had difficulty locating directions from the South Tower from the Green Garage. From the Green Garage please follow signs to enter the hospital from the skybridge, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Green Garage. Once you exit the elevator go left and continue down the hallway as it turns right. You will go past the South Cafe (which will be on your right-hand side), when you turn right after the cafe you will be at a bank of elevators which are for all floors in the South Patient Tower. If you have any questions, please ask any person in a red blazer. They will help direct you to where you need to go on the campus.
