Inova Alexandria and Inova Fairfax Hospitals Named ‘Best Workplaces for Commuters’

Hospitals Recognized for Providing Outstanding Commuter Benefits

Falls Church, VA- (July 1, 2010) – Inova Alexandria and Inova Fairfax hospitals have been named “Best Workplaces for Commuters” by the National Center for Transit Research. To be honored with this elite designation, the hospitals had to meet a rigorous list of outstanding commuter benefits for employees, such as free or low cost bus passes and vanpool fares and strong telework programs. The hospitals also had to maintain a focus of helping get employees to work safely, on time, and free of commute-related stress.

Working with employees to provide a better commute is part of Inova Health System’s overall sustainability vision. The core strategy being a “triple bottom line” approach: constantly working towards incorporating environmental sustainability into core business operations while working at the intersection of the environment, the economy and society as a whole.

The National Center for Transit Research is part of the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), a nationally-recognized research institution and resource for policymakers, transportation professionals, the education system, and the public. The CUTR provides the tools, guidance, and promotion necessary to help U.S. employers of any size incorporate commuter benefits into their standard benefits plan.
