Inova Alexandria Hospital Names Pamela McVey Chief Nurse Executive

Nursing Executive Brings 15 Years of Experience to Hospital’s Leadership Team

Alexandria, VA  – (June 12, 2009) — Inova Alexandria Hospital is pleased to announce Pamela McVey, RN, MSN, as its new chief nurse executive.

McVey has more than 15 years of nursing experience, with many of those years in leadership roles. She most recently served as associate hospital administrator of patient-care services at Louisiana State University Public Hospital, the largest hospital in the LSU system. While in that role, McVey was responsible for the direction of all nursing functions, including the emergency department, intensive care unit, women’s and children, and trauma. She also successfully oversaw patient-care functions during hurricanes Katrina and Gustav.

“Pamela’s qualifications and knowledge of nursing administration is a tremendous addition to our chief nurse executive position,” said Christine Candio, CEO, Inova Alexandria Hospital senior vice president, Inova Health System. “We are sure her leadership will be embraced among our nurses and will help them to continue delivering outstanding care to our patients.”

Before joining LSU Public Hospital, McVey held the chief nursing officer position at Biloxi Regional Medical Center. She was responsible for implementing recruitment and retention strategies, and for preparing the facility for surveys performed by the Joint Commission. McVey was key in helping the hospital achieve the 2007 Mississippi Hospital of the Year award.

McVey served as interim chief nursing officer at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. She also earned the 2006 Mississippi Nurses Association Nightingale Award for Nurse Administrator of the Year.

While in Mississippi, McVey was an active board member of the state’s Organization of Nurse Executives, as well as a member of the Mississippi Hospital Association, the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce and many other professional positions.

McVey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Louisiana State University and a Master’s degree in Nursing from University of Southern Mississippi.
