Inova CIO Geoff Brown Appointed to Virginia Health IT Committee

Committee to Advise Commonwealth on IT, Software Purchases

Falls Church, VA  – (May 7, 2009) — Geoff Brown, SVP, chief information officer, Inova Health System, has been appointed to the newly created Health Information Technology Standards Advisory Committee by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Secretary of Technology and Secretary of Health and Human Resources.

Established through legislation during the 2009 General Assembly session, the committee will advise the state’s Information Technology Investment Board (ITIB) on the approval of standards for health information technology systems or software procured by any state agency of the Commonwealth.

“It is an honor to represent Inova Health System and serve the broader Virginia community,” said Brown. “I look forward to working with a talented group of professionals on the Commission.”

In addition to Brown, the ITIB approved three other committee appointees at its April 16 meeting. They are:
Dr. Marshall Ruffin of Charlottesville, chief technology and health information officer, University of Virginia Health System, who will serve as chair
Dr. Daniel Barchi of Roanoke, SVP and chief information officer, Carilion Clinic, President, Carilion Biomedical Institute
Dr. Alistair Erskine of Richmond, chief medical information officer, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.
The committee is scheduled to begin work later this month.
