Inova Alexandria Hospital Celebrates 136 Years

Behind-The-Scenes Tour Will Give First Look at Renovations and Expansion

Alexandria, VA – (December 5, 2008) — Many changes have taken place in the 136 years that Inova Alexandria Hospital has been delivering healthcare to the community. Some of the $84 million changes, part of Project 2010, will be highlighted during a hard hat tour of the hospital’s renovations and expansion.

The tour will provide local community leaders, donors and the hospital auxiliary groups with a never-before-seen look at the new state-of-the-art space. The renovations and improvements which span nearly 70,000 square feet and includes the Emergency and Surgery Departments as well as the new Telemetry Unit will be a focus of the tour.

Inova Alexandria Hospital, formerly known as Alexandria Hospital, began with a grassroots effort by farmers who donated proceeds from their crops to help construct the hospital in 1872.

Today, nearly $14 million philanthropic dollars have been raised for Project 2010. This year’s anniversary is sponsored in part by the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation and its 1872 Society, a volunteer group of hospital supporters.
