Falls Church, VA – (May 9, 2007) – Inova Fairfax Hospital is pleased to announce that F. Joseph Hallal, MD, a long time member of the hospital medical staff, has accepted the new position of chief medical officer. As chief medical officer, Dr. Hallal will be responsible for the oversight of the Medical Staff Office and its functions, as well as physician relations, and patient quality and safety. He will begin this role full-time in late June.
Dr. Hallal graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and trained at the Health Center Hospitals of the University of Pittsburgh and the Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hallal joined the staff of Inova Fairfax Hospital in 1975 as a cardiologist and served as the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories for 23 years. He became an integral part of the medical staff leadership and acted as president of the Medical Staff in 2004 and 2005. Most recently he has been working with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations as a site surveyor.
