Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence are hospitals rated in the top 5% in the nation with the lowest risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates across at least 21 of 32 common conditions and procedures. Patients treated in hospitals receiving the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award have, on average, a lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the designation.
