Inova Loudoun Hospital Hosting Stop the Bleed® Workshop

Leesburg, VA – As part of the national Stop the Bleed® campaign, the Inova Virts Miller Family Emergency and Trauma Center at Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts free courses designed for community members who may find themselves at the scene of an emergency. Course attendees will enhance their emergency preparedness by learning the difference between bleeding and life-threatening blood loss, and how to react to both.

During an emergency, no matter how quickly emergency professionals respond, the individuals on-scene are best positioned to assist and potentially stop life-threatening blood loss. This is critical because a person who is bleeding profusely can die from blood loss within five minutes.

Those interested can complete an online education course at their convenience, and then join the Inova Loudoun Hospital trauma team on Monday, Nov. 15 for an in-person skills training workshop where attendees will experience hands-on practice with tourniquets and wound packing. Practicing these skills provides a deeper understanding of what it means to Stop the Bleed®, and the confidence to help someone in an emergency.

Participation is free but space is limited.  To register visit inova.org/stopthebleed. The workshop will be held at the Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Pl., Meeting Room B, Potomac Falls.

Completion of both the online education and in-person skills training course are required to be fully trained in Stop the Bleed®. The link to the online education is: stopthebleed.org/training/online-course.  Please bring a face mask and online education results to the in-person skills training course.
