The new Observation Unit officially opened on Monday, March 10, 2014. The 14-bed unit occupies 4,600 square feet of space and was a $2.6 million investment by Inova. This unit was added to better serve our patients. There are circumstances where additional time and testing is necessary to determine if a patient can be discharged or admitted as inpatient. This interim period is considered observation status if it’s deemed to meet appropriate criteria by a physician. Once placed in observation status, the patient will remain there until discharged or until he or she is changed to inpatient. The unit will also help to minimize the “holding” in the Emergency Department. The new unit is located next to the pharmacy on the first floor of the West Wing building.
The Ashburn Healthplex, located at the Dulles Greenway and Loudoun County Parkway interchange, will include a new emergency department, imaging center, physician office space and more. Currently, the groundbreaking is scheduled for this summer with operations starting by mid- to late 2015.
