Known as the “Voice of DC,” WTOP reporter Neal Augenstein continues to share his inspiring journey from a stage-4 lung cancer diagnosis in November 2022 to becoming cancer-free a year later. Last week, Neal’s story of the ground-breaking medical treatment he received at Inova Schar Cancer was featured on NBC News.
In the piece, Amit “Bobby” Mahajan, MD, medical director of interventional pulmonology for Inova, gives more insights on Neal’s diagnosis and targeted therapy used for his treatment.
Neal has also been sharing his story with his radio listeners to raise awareness and offer hope to others facing similar challenges.
Dr. Mahajan credits Inova’s culture of collaboration as one of the driving factors in Neal’s cancer-free diagnosis and in particular, Neal’s oncologist Dr. Amin Benyounes and his surgeon Dr. Michael Weyant. “Stories like this are truly a result of outstanding work performed by our interventional pulmonary, thoracic surgery and oncology teams,” he said.
