Alexandria Neighbors Support Hospital Workers in Battle Against Coronavirus

People in the community of Alexandria are working to donate supplies to the doctors, nurses, and other hospital workers at Inova Alexandria Hospital to protect them and help keep patients safe during the covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s heartwrenching to know what our staff and others across the world are having to go through,” said Shannon Hiskey, Inova Health Foundation Executive Director of Philanthropy for the East Region.

  • My daughter is a nurse there. I have heard her frustration with the public for not being as safe as possible, her fear of getting COVID 19 and taking it home to her family, and her concern for her patients who are extremely sick.
I am so very proud of her.
Even though I’m not a patient and don’t actually know the members of your staff, I know that they work well together and are working so very hard to save lives and make people well again. So thank you to all of your staff. The job is long, hard, and risky. Thank you for everything you are doing whether you are cleaning, cooking, doctoring or nursing. Each one of you is vital. You are all in my prayers.

  • I saw in the Washington Post yesterday where Inova is not giving N95 respirators to all employees in contact with COVID-19 patients and yet not allowing those employees to wear N95 respirators not supplied by Inova. The Washington Post states that Inova’s policy here is contrary to best practice. So, what is the point of people donating supplies when the staff are not allowed to use them? Why Inova’s callous disregard for the health and safety of its staff, while putting out public relations statement about how much it cares?
