Inova Opens First Inova Cares Clinic for Behavioral Health

Leesburg, VA — Inova Health System is proud to announce the opening of the first Inova Cares Clinic – Behavioral Health (ICCBH) which provides adult mental health counseling services to individuals who are underinsured, uninsured or have Virginia Medicaid coverage and are struggling with symptoms of mild to moderate mental health conditions. ICCBH is located on the Inova Loudoun Hospital – Cornwall Campus, 211 Gibson St, NW Suite 220, Leesburg, VA. While located in Loudoun County, the clinic is for community members across Northern Virginia.

According to Mental Health America’s (MHA) recent annual State of Mental Health in America report, an estimated 55% of the more than 50 million Americans who experienced mental illness in 2020 went untreated. The report also documented most of those seeking counseling could not access treatment in 2020 because they could not afford it or find an available doctor.

“Opening our first Inova Cares Clinic for Behavioral Health is a direct response to the 2022 Loudoun Community Health Needs Assessment which identified mental health as a top community need,” commented Karen Berube, Chief, Community Health & Health Equity, SVP Inova Health System. “Together, with community stakeholders and government partners, this opening underscores our duty, responsibility and privilege to provide a tangible response to a vital need within our community.”

As the region’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider, Inova brings world-class healthcare, education and wellness programming to area residents, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2021, Inova invested over $380 million in community care.

In addition to Inova’s commitment to the community, Inova is deeply grateful for the generous supporters of this initiative, including The O’Shaughnessy-Hurst Memorial Foundation, Mike and Teresa Wheeler, and Patti and John Sinnen.

Specifics related to this new service include:

ICCBH criteria:

  • Adults 18 years and older
  • Mild to moderate mental health needs (e.g., anxiety, depression, grief)
  • Uninsured and eligible or approved for Inova Financial Assistance
  • Virginia Medicaid coverage

ICCBH services:

  • Individual therapy services on a weekly/biweekly and time limited basis
  • Short-term, goal-directed therapy for 10 – 12 sessions
  • Telemedicine appointments available for those unable to attend in person
  • Connection to community resources and primary care services

The clinic will be staffed by five Inova team members and the space includes six counseling rooms, office space, a family meeting room and training room.

“I’m thankful to be part of an organization that responds to the self-identified needs of the community,” said Christopher Chiantella, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Inova Loudoun Hospital. “We are privileged to serve our community, made up of our friends and families, and have an impact on individuals’ health and wellbeing.”
