Falls Church, VA –Zobair Younossi MD, MPH, FACG, AGAF, FAASLD, has been named President, Inova Medicine Service Line. In this role, Dr. Younossi is responsible for developing and leading the Inova Medicine team in providing world class patient care across all 5 Inova hospitals and more than 50 primary care offices and stand-alone emergency care centers. He will continue is his current responsibilities as Acting Chairman of Inova’s Clinical Research department.

Following graduation from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Younossi completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation, La Jolla, California. He subsequently held positions of Hepatologist and Senior Researcher at the Department of Gastroenterology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation before joining Inova as the Executive Director of the Center for Liver Diseases in 2000, and was appointed Vice President of Research at Inova Health System. Under Dr. Younossi’s leadership, numerous highly-respected clinical programs were created that provide integrated care across Inova, including Inova Endocrinology and Diabetes, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Geriatric, Critical Care, Lung, Gastroenterology and Hospitalist programs. During his tenure as Chairman of Department of Medicine, the first Internal Medicine residency program for Inova was established.
Inova’s Medicine Service line includes a broad range of subspecialty areas including allergy and immunology, critical care medicine, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general medicine, hospitalists, infectious disease, metabolic disorders, nephrology, palliative care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pulmonology, rheumatology, wound care, and hospital emergency departments and Inova’s freestanding emergency departments.
Dr. Younossi earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, George Mason University; a Master of Public Health in Health Services Administration, San Diego State University School of Public Health; and Doctor of Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha, University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Younossi has authored and presented more than 550 articles, 850 abstracts and has given more than 430 faculty lectures in national and international meetings.
