Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Recognized for Straight “A’s” in The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Fairfax, VA The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, has announced the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and awarded Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) the elite designation of ‘A’ for its continued achievement in patient safety. IFOH is one of only 49 “Straight A” hospitals in the United States to be awarded an ‘A’ every grading cycle since 2012.

“Quality, safety and reliability matter most to our team, and our patients. Leapfrog helps us measure our continued progress on all three.” said John L. Fitzgerald, CEO, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

“Only a very select group of hospitals nationally continue to earn an A Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade year after year. It shows an unbroken commitment to protecting patients from preventable errors and accidents that harm and even kill too many people in our country every day. Thanks to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for always putting your patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“We focus on every patient, every day to provide consistently safe and reliable care that allows us to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group as a “Straight A Hospital” on every measurement since 2012. Our commitment to our community is to be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country”, says G. Michael Lynch, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

I have been a patient at IFOH several times, as have some of my family and friends. I am very impressed with your quality. As a neighbor of the hospital, I often walk through the parking lot near the Emergency entrance. It struck me the other day that your staff park where it is clearly marked by sign after sign to be a no parking zone. They are not towed, as it says they will be.

I think you should remove the signs and let them park there – it’s dangerous for medical professionals (staff and management) to ignore signs and warnings in one place at the hospital and be expected to follow them in another.

Hi Ann – Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will reach out to the facilities team at IFOH and ask them to follow-up and address this parking issue.
