Inova Loudoun Hospital Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group in May 2017

Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group Next Meeting May 10 at 11 a.m.

Leesburg, VA — Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts a free, monthly Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group.  The purpose of the support group is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment as a part of the stroke recovery process for those who are affected by stroke and their caregivers.  The group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – noon at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg, in the second floor Patient Education Room.  The next Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group will be on Wednesday, May 10th.

In May, the group will be hosting experts from Bioness who will be sharing the advances in technology that support patients who have experienced stroke or have been diagnosed with MS and other neurological disorders.  Bioness representatives will be sharing information on equipment to assist with foot drop, ambulation, upper extremity functional ability, and decreasing pain.  Group attendees will have an opportunity to tour their exhibit to see some of the larger equipment they offer.

Stroke is a “brain attack” cutting off vital oxygen and blood to parts of the brain that control everything we do.  Every year, stroke affects nearly 800,000 people in the US.  The survivors of stroke forever experience changes that can affect speaking, walking, memory, and thinking. Recovery is a lifelong process.  Socializing in a supportive and encouraging environment is an important part of stroke recovery.  Support groups allow stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to interact with others who understand the life changes that occur after stroke.

Participation is free and registration isn’t required.  For further information, please contact Jill Lieb, Stroke Support Group Liaison at Jill.Lieb@inova.org or 703-858-6199.
