Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Celebrates Its Commitment to Excellence

Alexandria, VA – (March 1, 2011) — On Thursday, March 3, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital physicians, staff, volunteers and executive leadership will celebrate recent accomplishments in stroke care, breast health and wound healing at the 2010 Accomplishments Ceremony.

The Inova Breast Care Institute at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital earned a three-year accreditation in breast care from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), part of the American College of Surgeons, which sets the standard for how breast cancer patients receive care. The hospital was certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, making it part of an elite group of centers in Virginia. The Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital was granted a four-year reaccreditation with special distinction by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS), a recognition earned by less than twenty percent of accredited medical facilities in the country. The hyperbaric oxygen unit is used to treat non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning and scuba divers disease.
