Inova Health System Fighting the Flu with a One-Two Punch

Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Offering October Flu Shot Clinics

Leesburg, VA – (September 28, 2009) – Facing a flu season complicated by the prospect of both seasonal flu and the H1N1 (“swine flu”) viruses, Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Services will offer flu shot clinics again in October.

Inova Health System is one of the largest providers of flu shots in Northern Virginia and has been providing the seasonal flu shots since September – one month earlier than usual. As part of its commitment to keep the community healthy, Inova is offering flu clinics at its hospitals, at employer sites and at many other convenient sites throughout Northern Virginia.

The flu is not just a bad cold. Each year, about 36,000 people in the U.S. die from causes related to seasonal flu, while more than 200,000 people are hospitalized. An annual flu vaccination is safe and convenient, and can be up to 90 percent effective in protecting against this serious illness. Members of the community can protect themselves and their loved ones by getting their vaccines.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Services will offer flu shot clinics throughout the month of October. The clinics are open to the general public. Children aged 4 and above are eligible to receive a flu shot at our community clinics. At our hospital-based clinics on Oct. 5, 7 and 24, infants aged 6 months to adults can be vaccinated.

Each child must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent. Seniors with a valid Medicare card can also receive a flu shot. The cost for the seasonal flu shot is $25 per person (cash or check accepted). Inova will also offer the H1N1 flu shot in accordance with federal government guidelines once the vaccine becomes available.

The Mobile Health Services schedule for Oct. is listed below. For more information about immunizations and other flu-related services offered by Inova, call 703-750-8800 (or call toll-free 1-877-895-5BUG) or visit www.inova.org/flu.

Hi. I need to get my 81 year old mother her flu shot. Could you please send me the Inova Flu Shot Clinic Bus Schedule for November? Will it be anywhere in the Leesburg area this week? Thanks.
