Inova Alexandria Hospital to Add $14 Million to Project 2010

$84 Million Expansion Project Will Enhance Access to Health Care

Alexandria, VA – (April 25, 2007) — The Inova Health System Board of Trustees approved an additional $14 million for the hospital’s Project 2010, an expansion and renovation plan designed to enhance the hospital’s existing health care services.

The additional $14 million in funding will provide 24 new rooms for telemetry, which will allow for 24-hour monitoring of patients. The hospital will also be renovating 76 patient rooms, including conversion of 24 semi-private rooms to private, increasing the number of single patient rooms by 48.

“This increased commitment to Project 2010 will enable the hospital to provide the standard of care our community expects well into the 21st century,” said Kenneth Kozloff, CEO, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Senior Vice President, Inova Health System. “The expanded scope of the project allows the hospital to add a much-needed 24-bed Telemetry Unit while converting 24 existing rooms to private patient rooms.”

Research shows that in the year 2010, more than one out of every four people in our community will be between the ages of 50 and 65-the age when devastating health conditions, such as heart attacks, strokes, cancer and chronic conditions are more likely to occur.

To respond to the communities changing needs, Inova Alexandria Hospital began Project 2010, the now $84 million plan to enhance a variety of critical health care services that are most demanded by the aging Alexandria community, which includes the Emergency, Surgery, and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology departments and the Laboratory.

“We care about our community and we want to improve access and reengineer our procedures to make them even more patient friendly,” Kozloff said.

The construction project, which began in late 2006, is the largest investment of capital into the hospital since 1974.
