Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Tear Trough
A common concern among many of my clients is under-eye bags or dark circles under the eyes. In the cosmetic dermatology industry, this area is referred to as the tear trough. While some patients may require a lower blepharoplasty (surgery) to address their concern, many can benefit from non-surgical dermal filler injections. Here are a few of my clients’ most commonly asked questions:
Which dermal filler is used to treat the tear trough?
When it comes to product choice, every provider is different. For the past 8 years, I have only used Belotero® to inject the tear trough. I have seen amazing results with this particular filler with no complications.
How long does Belotero® last?
On average, Belotero lasts 6 – 9 months. However, when injected into the tear trough, most of my patients reap the aesthetic benefits for close to one year.
How much does Belotero cost?
Pricing will vary among businesses. To learn about the current injectable rates and promotions at Inova Medical Spa, please call 703-554-1130.
Most patients require 1cc when addressing the tear trough. It’s best to “under correct” this area and add more later if required. Please do not price shop for injectables; it’s best to shop for the injector. Look at their work through before and after photos on Instagram, Facebook or their website. Is the tear-trough injection painful?
Patients are quite comfortable as a topical numbing cream and cold compress is applied prior to the injection. The numbing substance is also mixed into the syringe of Belotero.
Do I need to avoid any medications prior to the injection?
To minimize bruising, it is recommended that patients stop any optional over-the-counter drugs or supplements (such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve, fish oil and other omega supplementation) that have a blood-thinning effect about 10 to 14 days prior to receiving these injections.
Can I apply makeup after the injection?
What should I expect after the procedure?
Mild swelling and possible mild bruising is to be expected. Avoid having this procedure prior to a major event. Cold compresses can be applied gently to reduce swelling and bruising.
