One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is increasing physical activity. Whether you’ve just recently adopted a new fitness routine or you’re a veteran exercise enthusiast, chances are you’ve probably experienced some muscle stiffness and aches along the way. If this sounds familiar, you may benefit from a Sports Massage.

If you are a Weekend Warrior who overdid it – even if the fight was against your garden or a pile of snow – sports massage can loosen tight, sore muscles.

There are different styles of Sports Massage. The style I perform typically includes range of motion (ROM) work, deep broad pressure massage, medium deep stripping, and invigorating strokes to promote blood flow. In most sessions, approximately half of the time is spent on stretching and improving ROM. Sports Massage can be used during athletic training, before an event, as a post-event recovery, or even during an event. The blend of techniques utilized will vary based on where you are in your training and your individual needs.

Despite its name, you do not need to be an athlete to benefit from a Sports Massage. Anyone who is active and/or concerned about being stiff or losing flexibility will benefit from this type of massage. If you exercise regularly, adding sports massage to your routine can help to reduce muscle ache and allow you to achieve more.

If you are a Weekend Warrior who overdid it – even if the fight was against your garden or a pile of snow – sports massage can loosen tight, sore muscles. If you find your flexibility has deteriorated with age or inactivity, you can also benefit from Sports Massage.  To learn more, schedule an appointment with a massage therapist. He or she will recommend the best massage modality for your unique needs.
