Movement: Take the First Step Toward Fitness Success

Jeff Coulter, MS, CSCS, is an athletic trainer with a master’s degree in Health Exercise and Sports Science. He is a Performance Specialist with Inova Sports Performance powered by EXOS.

Want to improve your athletic performance – or just get serious about getting in shape? You could join a big-box gym or download some exercise videos. But at Inova Sports Performance powered by EXOS, we believe there’s a better way.

There’s no doubt that exercise is a major piece of fitness, but it’s not the only piece that matters. Along with Movement, we build Mindset, Nutrition and Recovery into personalized plans for each of our clients, to help them reach the next level of performance.

And as partners of Inova Sports Medicine, we go a step further by coordinating care with physical therapists, sports medicine experts and orthopaedic surgeons.

Ready to start moving toward your goals? Here’s what to expect.

Tailor-Made Movement Plans

At Inova Sports Performance powered by EXOS, our “athletes” come in all forms. We work with pro athletes, police officers, military personnel, as well as youth athletes and average adults at all levels of fitness.

The EXOS model is completely customizable. While a majority of our classes are group-based, the movements can be adjusted to meet your specific abilities.

Many of our athletes come to our fitness center to work out several times a week. There they might undergo one-on-one athletic training, or take group classes based on the latest exercise science. Some of our clients travel for work, or for other reasons can’t make it to our fitness center on a regular basis. In those cases, we might treat our sessions more like lessons – helping them learn the workout techniques and creating a plan they can stick to from anywhere in the world.

In fact, education is a key part of the program. I want my clients to learn something every time they come in, so that they can apply the principles of Movement, Mindset, Nutrition and Recovery into their daily routines for the rest of their lives.

Fitness for Everyone
This year, our team worked with two high-school soccer players who each had surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries to the knee. They came to us as referrals by Inova Sports Medicine, and we worked with them as they recovered and got back in shape. Both girls are stronger than ever and are heading off to play on Division 1 college soccer teams this fall.

While it’s great to have a goal – playing college sports, running a marathon, losing 20 pounds – our long-term goal for everyone isn’t just improved performance, but better health for years to come.

If you don’t consider yourself an “athlete,” you might be nervous about starting a comprehensive fitness program like EXOS. Don’t worry. Our doors are open to everyone from all levels of fitness. Sure, we’ll challenge you to put in the effort. But we’ll also meet you where you are to create a realistic program.

Whether you’re an average or elite athlete, we think of ourselves as one big team – and we leave our egos at the door. When our clients reach their goals, no matter how big or small, we all celebrate together.
