Prince William County Police Department to Host A Blood Drive in Honor of Fallen and Wounded Officers

Sterling, VA – March 25, 2016 – The Prince William County Police Department is teaming up with Inova Blood Donor Services to host a “Blood for Heroes” community blood drive on Monday, April 4, 2016 in honor of its fallen and wounded officers from February’s incident.

According to Chief of Police, Stephan M. Hudson, “The outpouring of support we have seen from across the region since the tragic events of February 27 has been truly moving. In our time of need, communities in the area have reached out to show they are standing with us. This blood drive is to show our appreciation for this support. Ashley’s family, as well as, Dave and Jesse have been sincerely grateful for the thoughts and kind gestures they have received.”

Local Law Enforcement and Rescue teams along with the general public are invited to show their support by donating blood at the Prince William County Police Department: 8900 Freedom Center Boulevard Manassas, VA 20110 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Inova Blood Donor Services will be located in the large meeting room. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

More than 250 units of blood and blood products are needed every day, year-round, for patients in area hospitals. One blood donation can save up to three lives, and there is a continual need for all blood types. There is no substitute for human blood. It only comes from volunteer blood donors.

To give blood, donors must be feeling generally well on the day of their donation, be at least 16 years old (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood in the past eight weeks (56 days) for whole blood or 112 days for double red cells.
