Inova Loudoun Hospital Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group on November 9

Next Meeting November 9 at 11 a.m.

Leesburg, VA — November 1, 2016— Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts a free, monthly Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group.  The purpose of the support group is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment as a part of the stroke recovery process for those who are affected by stroke and their caregivers.  The group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – noon at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg, in the second floor Patient Education Room.  The next Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group will be on Wednesday, November 9th.

The November speaker will be Olga Goncharov, a certified Speech Pathologist.  She’ll talk about Kinesio Taping, a form of elastic therapeutic tape and taping techniques have been developed to reduce swelling, pain and asymmetry on one side of a person’s body. Goncharov has a master’s degree in Communication Science and Disorders from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s in Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Michigan.

Stroke is a “brain attack” cutting off vital oxygen and blood to parts of the brain that control everything we do.  Every year, stroke affects nearly 800,000 people in the US.  The survivors of stroke forever experience changes that can affect speaking, walking, memory, and thinking.  Recovery is a lifelong process.  Socializing in a supportive and encouraging environment is an important part of stroke recovery.  Support groups allow stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to interact with others who understand the life changes that occur after stroke.

Participation is free and registration isn’t required.  For further information, please contact Jill Lieb, Stroke Support Group Liaison @ Jill.Lieb@inova.org or 703-858-6199.
