Pediatric Specialists of Virginia: First 50/50 Pediatric Joint Venture in DC Metropolitan Area

Washington, DC and Fairfax, VA – (March 1, 2013) – Children’s National Medical Center and Inova announced today the formation of Pediatric Specialists of Virginia, LLC. This outpatient practice is a joint venture which will bring together and hire pediatric specialists from both institutions to deliver pediatric specialty care to children in Northern Virginia.

“Pediatric Specialists of Virginia brings together two highly regarded and trusted medical centers to provide world class care for children and families,” said J. Knox Singleton, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Inova Health System. “We are pleased to work with our Children’s National colleagues to make specialty care more convenient for families in Northern Virginia.”

“Through this new physician practice, our talented and nationally recognized teams will provide specialty services in shared settings, combining clinical strengths from both organizations,” said Kurt D. Newman, President and CEO, Children’s National. “The joint expertise of our two organizations will advance treatment for kids and families in Northern Virginia and across the region.”

Beginning in fall 2013, Pediatric Specialists of Virginia will offer pediatric Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Genetics, Hematology/Oncology, and Orthopedics through this new collaboration at three locations in the Fairfax, VA area.

Children’s National and Inova currently offer these services through separate specialty care centers. This new joint venture will result in an integrated model that maximizes the reach of the limited number of pediatric specialists in Northern Virginia. In addition to creating Pediatric Specialists of Virginia to deliver clinical care, Inova and Children’s National Medical Center will also collaborate on research activities including genomic and translational research, as well as continuing medical education. The two healthcare organizations will also partner in community outreach and education—initial plans include community engagement surrounding childhood obesity and asthma.
