Falls Church, VA – (August 17, 2012) – Beginning Saturday, August 25 at 9 a.m., Inova Fairfax Medical Campus will open a new main entrance road, “Wellness Boulevard,” at the south end of campus along Woodburn Road. The opening will result in the closure of the current main “Gray Entrance” on Gallows Road, to all but emergency traffic only. The existing “Blue Entrance” for women’s and children’s services and “Red Entrance” to the Emergency Department on Gallows Road will not be affected and will remain open. Current campus parking options will remain unchanged.

Directional signs announcing the new traffic pattern were installed along Gallows and Woodburn roads on August 17 to assist motorists. A newly installed traffic light at the intersection of Woodburn Road and Wellness Boulevard will help control the flow of traffic, as will dedicated right- and left-turn lanes for traffic entering and exiting the campus.

Additional assistance will be provided by a traffic attendant who will be stationed at the Gray Entrance Mondays through Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the remainder of the campus expansion construction. Vehicles attempting to enter the campus via the Gray Entrance will be redirected to the new entrance on Woodburn Road.

The opening of Wellness Boulevard marks the first major transformation in the $850 million expansion project at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. As the new main gateway to the medical campus, the road will provide easy access for patients and visitors to the hospital’s services, including the new Inova Fairfax Hospital medical/surgical tower opening in January 2013 and the new Inova Women’s Hospital and Inova Children’s Hospital, scheduled to open early 2016.
