Medical Office Building, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Five-Story Parking Garage Completed at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital

Joint Venture Outpatient Surgery Center to Hold Ribbon Cutting, See First Patients in July

Fairfax, VA  – (June 30, 2009) — Inova Health System and Inova Fair Oaks Hospital are proud to announce completion of a new four-level medical office building (MOB) that includes a 23,209-square-foot Ambulatory Surgery Center, and a new five-level, 950-space parking deck on the hospital campus.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of these new facilities, which have been under construction for the last year. Their completion enables us keep pace with physician demand for office space on our campus while better serving the needs of our area’s growing population,” says John Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President, Inova Health System, and CEO, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

The new medical office building – budgeted at $21 million – is the third on the hospital’s campus and houses the new Ambulatory Surgery Center. Local government officials, physicians and representatives from the development and construction companies involved in the building’s creation will join Inova leadership and other guests at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new outpatient surgery center on Thursday, July 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. The address of the new MOB is 3620 Joseph Siewick Dr., Fairfax, VA 22033.

The outpatient surgery center is a joint venture between participating surgeons and Inova, and increases the total number of operating rooms available on the hospital campus to 14. In 2008, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital performed more than 12,000 surgeries in 10 operating rooms.

“We are pleased to join Inova’s efforts to improve access to care in our community. To have this new facility conveniently located on the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital campus is a great benefit, not only for physicians but for our patients as well,” said Richard Brenner, MD, Chair, Department of Surgery, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. Dr. Brenner, a surgeon with Virginia Surgery Associates, is a joint venture partner in the new Ambulatory Surgical Center.

The recently completed 950-space parking garage offers free parking to all patients, visitors, physicians and staff, with convenient access to all MOBs and the hospital. The $17.1 million-garage is the first Inova Health System facility to use the latest technology in LED lighting, which is both efficient and cost-effective. The garage elevators are also “green,” using one-tenth of the energy of normal elevators. These features, part of Inova’s many environmental efforts around the System, are expected to save approximately $66,000 each year in energy costs. In addition, all materials removed from the project (asphalt, rebar, concrete) were recycled.

Garage security is maintained by 63 active surveillance cameras and 38 call boxes. All cameras and call boxes are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Security Operations Center.
