Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Earns Gold Seal for Joint Replacement Program

Hospital One of Only Six Programs in Virginia to Earn this Distinction

Alexandria, VA – (April, 28, 2009) — Inova Mount Vernon Hospital has earned a Gold Seal of Approval™ for outstanding care in joint replacement procedures by The Joint Commission, the national accrediting organization for hospitals and healthcare facilities.

“We’re very honored to receive this recognition, which ranks our hospital among some the nation’s best for joint replacements,” said Barbara Doyle, CEO, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. “This designation is evidence that our hospital has a commitment to provide world-class orthopedic care.”

To earn this distinction in joint replacement, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital underwent an extensive, on-site evaluation by a team of reviewers from The Joint Commission.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is one of only six programs in Virginia to earn the Gold Seal of Approval for hip and knee replacements.

This distinguished designation, valid from 2009 through 2011, means that Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s Inova Joint Replacement Center met rigorous quality standards and performed well in patient and staff interviews. The Gold Seal of Approval will also help patients make informed decisions about where they seek joint replacement surgeries.

“This certification demonstrates that Inova Mount Vernon Hospital does the right things, and does them extremely well, for knee and hip replacement patients,” said Jean E. Range, M.S., R.N., C.P.H.Q., executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, Joint Commission.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital has also been designated a Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement by UnitedHealthcare.
