Inova Loudoun Hospital Names Shannon Lehr Breast Care Institute Medical Director

Breast Surgical Oncologist Will Lead Hospital’s Breast Cancer Care

Leesburg, VA – (March 2, 2010) — Shannon Lehr, MD, has been named Medical Director of the Inova Breast Care Institute at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Lehr is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist.

“It is an honor to be the medical director at the hospital’s Inova Breast Care Institute,” said Dr. Lehr. “I look forward to serving breast cancer patients throughout the region and working with Inova’s talented group of medical professionals.”

Dr. Lehr will work closely with a multidisciplinary team at Inova Loudoun Hospital consisting of breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and other medical professionals to further develop a high-quality, coordinated breast care program. She will coordinate with other Inova hospitals to further strengthen the Inova Breast Care Institute and provide leadership in improving the delivery of care to patients with breast disease, while overseeing Inova Loudoun Hospital’s efforts as a nationally accredited breast center.

Lehr earned her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, trained at Pennsylvania Hospital and completed a fellowship in breast surgery at Washington Hospital Center. She is a board-certified surgeon, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several organizations, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The Inova Breast Care Institute is the largest accredited breast care program in the region and a member of the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers in Northern Virginia, an organization that monitors the quality of care delivered to breast cancer patients in the region.
