Inova joins The Sequoia Project eHealth Exchange

Now connected to Veterans Administration health records

FALLS CHURCH, VA – July 15, 2015 – Inova recently announced that the health system is now a participant in The Sequoia Project’s federal level health information exchange.  The Sequoia Project, formerly Healtheway, is a non-profit, public-private partnership that operationally supports the eHealth Exchange.  The system now allows for bi-directional information exchange with Veterans Administration patients.

Launched in 2009, eHealth Exchange has become a rapidly growing community of public and private organizations, representing thousands of providers and millions of patients.  The partnership allows clinicians to share patient information across both systems without paper or faxing, resulting in improved coordination of care for patients who receive care in multiple locations.

“With a large population of military in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia areas, Inova’s partnership with the Veterans Administration through eHealth Exchange will improve patient care and public health reporting, and streamline disability claims through a secure exchange,” Ryan Bosch, Vice President, Technology Services and Chief Medical Information Officer.

The eHealth Exchange helps to improve the health and welfare of Americans through health information exchange that is trusted, scalable and enhances quality of care and health outcomes.  Providers are able to use the data available through eHealth Exchange to quickly find and notify patients who may be at risk for problems related to unsafe drugs or recalled medical devices, identify epidemics nationwide, and allow researchers to analyze treatment and outcome data to identify best practices. The eHealth Exchange connectivity spans across all 50 states and is the largest HIE network in the US.
