Inova Health System Fighting the Flu With a One-Two Punch

Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Offering December Flu Shot Clinic

Leesburg, VA – (November 25, 2009) – Facing a flu season complicated by the prospect of both the seasonal flu and the H1N1 (“swine flu”) virus, Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Services will offer a seasonal flu shot clinic in December.

The seasonal flu shot clinic will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the main entrance of Inova Loudoun Medical Center – Leesburg, 224 Cornwall Street, Leesburg. The clinic is open to the general public. Children aged 6 months and older are eligible to receive a flu shot. Each child must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent. Seniors with a valid Medicare card can also receive a flu shot. The cost for the seasonal flu shot is $25 per person (cash or check accepted).

The flu is not just a bad cold. Each year, about 36,000 people in the U.S. die from causes related to seasonal flu, while more than 200,000 people are hospitalized. An annual flu vaccination is safe and convenient, and can be up to 90 percent effective in protecting against this serious illness. Members of the community can protect themselves and their loved ones by getting their vaccines.
