Inova Fairfax Hospital Revises Patient Tower Opening to January 2013

Falls Church, VA – (August 20, 2012) – Inova Fairfax Hospital announced today that the planned opening of its new patient tower in November will now occur in January 2013. The revised timeline will give hospital staff and physicians additional time to prepare for the adoption of a campus-wide electronic medical record system, EpicCare, which is slated to launch November 9.

Construction on the 11-story medical/surgical patient tower began in July 2010. The 216,000 square foot building dovetails with the hospital’s existing tower and will feature 174 private patient rooms. The building is part of a larger expansion project across the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus designed to upgrade its facilities into a world-class environment for patient care, education and research. When complete in 2016, the campus expansion will include the new patient tower now under construction, renovations to convert the existing patient tower to all private rooms, a 12-story tower with all private patient rooms for Inova Women’s Hospital and Inova Children’s Hospital, and an eight-story parking garage for patients and visitors.

In July 1958,when I first saw the plans for The Fairfax Hospital for 282 beds in Dr.Jacob [Jack] Zylman’s office, we wondered if any Docs or patients would ever come out to the Country !!!!!! No beltway; Gallows Rd. a rural Country Road; Route 50 just a 2 lane highway……
Often wondered how astounded Grace Lucas and Jacob Zylman would be to see how visionary they were…and how personally fortunate I was, to be a member of the Original Medical Staff….pretty amazing !
