Preventing and Treating Injuries in Student Athletes
Leesburg, VA – As part of its free “Ask the Expert” lecture series, Inova Loudoun Hospital will host “Preventing and Treating Injuries in Student Athletes” on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m.
If your child plays sports, whether an organized youth or competitive athletic program, you know injuries are always a risk. In fact, high school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations annually. Learn about what can be done to reduce those risks and the best course of action if an injury occurs.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Makes List as Safety Superstar
Leesburg, VA – AARP The Magazine has teamed up with The Leapfrog Group, which rates hospitals on safety and resource use, to create a list of America’s Safest Hospitals. Inova Loudoun Hospital is featured on the list as a “safety superstars”. Inova Loudoun is one of five hospitals in Virginia and one of 66 nationwide included on the list. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital also made the list. The April/May issue, in-homes and online now, showcases these “safety superstars” in the magazine’s first ever “Health” issue. The article, “Lessons From America’s Safest Hospitals,” showcases ways hospitals are preventing errors.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Offering Infant Massage Class

Leesburg, VA — Inova Loudoun Hospital will offer an Infant Massage class for infants six weeks to nine months (pre-crawling). The Infant Massage class is three-one hour classes on Tuesday, May 21, Friday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 28 from 10 – 11 a.m. at The Birthing Inn at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg.
In this class attendees will learn a massage routine and a colic/gas routine that can be used throughout a child’s life. Infant massage can help some babies sleep sounder, enhances neurological development and improves digestion. Yoga mats and massage oil will be available for use.

Understanding and Treating Environmental Allergies
Leesburg, VA – As part of its free “Ask the Expert” lecture series, Inova Loudoun Hospital will host a “Understanding and Treating Environmental Allergies” on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m.
You do not have to suffer with environmental allergies any longer. An allergist can help you diagnose the cause of your symptoms with specific testing, and treat the allergies with environmental changes, medications and desensitization. Dr. Saba Sharif, an Allergy/Asthma/Sinus specialist, will help you understand and manage your allergies. She states, “Allergies don’t have to interfere with your day to day activities. Inova Loudoun Hospital Opening New Emergency Care Center

Community is Invited to an Open House on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m.
Leesburg, VA – Inova Loudoun Hospital will celebrate the opening of the new Inova Emergency Care Center, 224A Cornwall Street NW, Leesburg, on Wednesday, May 1 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to an open house and official ribbon cutting of the new facility.
“In keeping with our promises, we are improving the access to expanded emergency healthcare for western Loudoun County residents,” commented H. Patrick Walters.
The new Emergency Care Center is state-of-the-art with:
- 19 private rooms including 14 exam rooms (with a window in most rooms), four rooms designed for mental health patients and one gynecology room
- Two bay trauma room, two bed triage area
- Facility expansion from 9,539 to 12,823 square feet
- New and expanded lab
- Enhancements to diagnostic imaging services, including an additional CT scanner
- Medication room and nourishment room
- Electronic Medical Record, EpicCare, linked to all Inova facilities
The new Emergency Care Center will start seeing patients on Thursday, May 2 at 5 a.m.
“We are planning a seamless transition from the current emergency department to the new facility. There won’t be any interruption of care for our patients,” continued Walters.

Inova Loudoun Hospital Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group

Next Meeting April 10 at 11 a.m. with Focus on Exercise
Leesburg, VA – Inova Loudoun Hospital hosts a free Stoke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group. The purpose of the support group is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment as a part of the stroke recovery process for those who are affected by stroke and their caregivers. The group will meet the second Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – noon at Inova Loudoun Hospital, 44045 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg in the second floor Patient Education Room. The next Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group will be on Wednesday, April 10. At the April meeting the focus will be on exercise after a stroke.
Stroke is a “brain attack” cutting off vital oxygen and blood to parts of the brain that control everything we do. Every year, stroke affects nearly 800,000 people in the US. The survivors of stroke forever experience changes that can affect speaking, walking, memory, and thinking. The recovery process after a stroke is life long. Socializing in a supportive and encouraging environment is an important part of stroke recovery. Support groups allow stroke survivors and caregivers to interact with others who understand the life changes that occur after stroke.
