Inova Receives ‘Partner for Change’ Award from Practice Greenhealth

Falls Church, VA – All five of Inova Health System’s hospitals were presented with the  “Partner for Change Award” from Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization for healthcare facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations.

Inova Alexandria, Inova Fairfax, Inova Fair Oaks, Inova Loudoun and Inova Mount Vernon hospitals were recognized for continuously improving and expanding upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs.

“We are so pleased to have our accomplishments recognized at a national level,” said Seema Wadhwa, Sustainability Engineer, Inova Health System. “Inova is committed to reducing its environmental impact and we are continually monitoring our progress to improve our performance. Loudoun Healthcare Foundation to Hold Fundraiser for Hospital’s ‘Greatest Need Fund’

May 7th, 2010

Fund Helps Enhance Hospital Services, Such as The Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Birthing Inn

Leesburg, VA – Join the Loudoun Healthcare Foundation of Inova Loudoun Hospital for “Midnight in Morocco,” a Moroccan-themed wine and cheese tasting at Lansdowne Resort on Saturday, June 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. Featuring Middle Eastern entertainment, a silent auction, and fine wine and cheeses, the event will raise money for the hospital’s Greatest Need Fund. The Fund enables hospital departments to apply for funding to expand and enhance critical healthcare services.

“The Greatest Need Fund enables our departments to identify the equipment or resources that have the greatest impact on improving care for patients,” said Randy Kelley, CEO, Inova Loudoun Hospital. “This Fund has contributed greatly to the success of many of our programs, including The Birthing Inn. Through the Fund, The Birthing Inn has received thousands of dollars that go directly to this dedicated maternity building. We thank those who have contributed, and encourage the community’s continued support.”

Since the Greatest Needs Fund began in 2007, the Loudoun Healthcare Foundation has given nearly $70,000 to support The Birthing Inn. The money enabled the hospital to purchase medical equipment for premature babies, to train nurses who work with high-risk mothers and babies, and to create an annual memorial service to provide comfort and assistance to families who have lost a baby.

In addition, The Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital has given $40,000 to The Birthing Inn through the Greatest Needs Fund. Those funds have gone toward purchasing medical equipment, including wireless/waterproof fetal monitors, cardiac monitors and an infant resuscitator.

iPATH Program Taps Expertise from Doctors, Nutritionists, NFL

Alexandria, VA – Inova Health System has selected T.C. Williams High School for the expansion of a pilot program that helps area students engage in health-oriented activities, promote healthy living among adolescents and their families, and expose students to exciting careers in medicine.

The initiative, known as iPATH (Inova Partnering Actively Toward Health), is a 10-week after-school program for student leaders that will occur twice a year, in the fall and spring. iPATH is currently achieving great success encouraging healthy lifestyles in four middle and high schools in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. With the support of Mayor William Euille and Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mort Sherman, T.C. Williams is the first school to be added after the initial pilot programs were launched last year.

Nominated by T.C. Williams faculty, 13 students are participating in the first iPATH session. Throughout the course of the program, these students will have an opportunity to participate in activities such as field trips; wellness discussions with Inova Alexandria Hospital physicians and staff, representatives from popular restaurants and community organizations; and participate in awareness efforts like the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s empowerME4Life healthy living course (www.empowerme2b.org).

During the 10-week program, students will also team up with former NFL player Cliff Russell of Russell Performance Fitness. Russell, a former player for the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos, will provide students with nutrition and fitness lessons to help them reach their full fitness potential.

“Inova Health System is the leading provider of healthcare in Northern Virginia, so iPATH represents an extension of our mission by offering fun and exciting health-related information and activities to students in our area,” said Rod Williams, Vice President, Community Affairs, Inova Health System. “iPATH introduces students to careers in the medical field and to the health-and-exercise regimen of star athletes.
