April 21st, 2008
Trained Army Reserve Soldiers to be Offered Job Opportunities at Inova
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The U.S. Army Reserve and Inova Health System today announced the launch of a unique public-private partnership that will allow both organizations to recruit, train and employ young people interested in both serving the Nation and pursuing the health care profession.
The agreement provides new Army Reserve Soldiers opportunities for employment at Inova Health System facilities once they successfully complete military occupational training in areas of critical clinical support. At present, these include radiology, respiratory therapy and surgical occupations. The Army Reserve and Inova will together recruit, train, credential, license and certify qualified Soldier candidates who are entering the health care field.
“I’m honored that Inova Health System has stepped forward to join the Army Reserve as the first employer partner to create new employment opportunities in the health care arena,” said Lt. Gen. Jack C. Stultz, Chief, Army Reserve and Commanding General, Army Reserve Command. “Business partnerships with respected organizations like Inova underscore the support America’s employers continue to give the Army Reserve.”
“Inova Health System reaffirms our strong support for members of the Army Reserve and their families, and recognizes their tremendous contribution to our communities both as Soldiers and citizens,” said Inova Health System President and CEO Knox Singleton.
The Employer Partnership Initiative seeks to formalize the relationship between the Army Reserve and the private sector. It establishes a process whereby employers and the Army Reserve may secure and share the talents of trained professionals. Partners such as Inova will benefit from the employment of men and women with Army values, experience and proven leadership skills.

Inova Health System Going Green to Celebrate Earth Day
April 17th, 2008
System Forms Partnership with EPA
Falls Church, VA— As part of the worldwide Earth Day celebration on April 22, Inova Health System made a commitment to “go green” and is promoting the idea of “reduce, reuse, recycle.” All of Inova’s hospitals and facilities throughout Northern Virginia have formed Going Green Committees which will initiate and promote programs that include recycling, using environmentally-friendly cleaning agents, and improving waste management systems.
In addition, Inova recently became an ENERGY STAR Partner, a program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that sets standards for superior energy efficiency. All five Inova hospital campuses are currently undergoing energy audits and on Tuesday, Inova signed the ENERGY STAR pledge challenge to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by 10 percent.

According to the EPA, making more efficient use of energy is the best starting point for reducing our carbon footprint and saving money. As a System, Inova has already made moves to become environmentally friendly, such as eliminating mercury and going smoke-free. Each Inova facility will be setting its own goals, some of which include:
- recycling oil, fluorescent bulbs and batteries
- installing motion detection lights
- implementing green construction programs
- implementing irrigation- and pesticide-free landscaping
- decreasing the use of toxic compounds and chemicals
ENERGY STAR is a voluntary partnership between businesses, government and others united to protect our environment for future generations by changing to energy-efficient practices today. ENERGY STAR works with more than 9,000 partners to improve the energy efficiency of products, homes, buildings and businesses. Businesses can use ENERGY STAR to improve efficiency, enhance profits, and create a competitive advantage. In 2006 alone, ENERGY STAR helped businesses and consumers save more than $14 billion in energy costs while reducing global warning emissions equivalent to those from 25 million vehicles.
